The South-Asian fairness Industry is worth millions of dollars and it's growing (sadly). Matrimonial ads always include long descriptions of a potential mate's complexion.
It's almost racist the way this is being treated though, a history peppered with colonization by lighter-skinned invaders from the west, inequalities introduced by the caste system and 200 years of British rule this obsession had to come from somewhere.
